Q1: Who is the organizer of this dance class?
A: Call me Honey. I am not a professional dancer but I love dancing. While I may not always be the best dancer in the room, I'm usually the longest-dancing person on the dance floor. I have been doing recreational dance every day for over one year and have seen the benefit to my physical and mental health. As a Nigerian-Canadian, you can guess that my favourite dance is Afro-dance. I have searched for Afro-dance classes in Saskatoon and did not find any, so I decided to create one. What's the worst that can happen?
Q2: Is this dance class new?
A: Yes, this is our first dance class. We're running this as a test class to determine interest and decide whether to continue or not. So, if this is something that interests you, sign up for this first dance class to encourage us to continue.
Q3: What is the intensity level of the dance steps?
A: This is a beginner Afro-dance class with a medium-intensity level. The goal is for those who have zero Afro-dance skills to learn the basics of Afro-dance while burning some calories and having fun. There is no pressure to master all the dance steps. You can learn at your own pace, as long as you have fun and challenge your body in the process.
Q4: What are the demographics of participants?
A: Everyone aged 16 and above is welcome to join the class, no matter their gender or race. However, we have seen more uptake among women of African descent aged 30-50. We also have a few Caucasians and Asians. We welcome the diversity and will maintain an inclusive environment.
